Cont: How to Start Up your
Tanning Salon 5
Advice on Pricing: You cannot compete by
merely having lower prices than your
competitors. Many salons are tempted to do so,
but it often leads to failure. If you price your
services too low, it will make it too difficult
to maintain the quality of your salon and
maintain the equipment in optimum working
condition. Plus it may give your salon the
reputation of a "discount" tanning salon.
Instead you should make sure that your prices
are competitive; you could offer more services
for the same amount of money, as well as higher
quality services than your competitors.
You will generally find that customers who use
your salon because your prices are the lowest
will not be loyal customers, because as soon as
another salon drops their prices, they will move
on to that one. It is best to build your
reputation on customer service and quality. You
will find that you will have more regular and
certainly more loyal customers if you do so. And
they will truly appreciate the services you have
to offer.
Upgrade Beds: Check in your area to see what is
common as to the types of tanning beds that are
used. Many salons have two or even three levels
of tanning beds. The regular packages are
usually for the standard 24 to 32 lamp beds. The
upgrades are for the bigger beds that contain
the 40 or 50 lamp systems. Your customers may
choose the type of service they desire or that
is within their price range. You can also charge
your customers a little more if you provide them
with extra services.
